Harden Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your use of the Harden mobile app. They are an agreement between you and New River Codeworks LLC (“New River Codeworks,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
Please read these Terms and the Harden Privacy Policy. By accessing or using Harden, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Harden.
First-run disclosure
Before opening Harden's main screens, the app shows short disclosure summaries, offers more detail, and links to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. Tapping I understand stores the disclosure version and acknowledgment time on that device. Harden can show the disclosure again after its version changes.
Who may use Harden
You must be at least 16 years old and legally able to accept these Terms.
Important health notice
Harden is a general-wellness, HRV, readiness, and workout tool. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent a disease or condition. Readings, scores, trends, deterministic guidance, and AI answers are not medical advice and are not a substitute for a clinician.
Do not use Harden as the sole basis for an urgent medical, medication, treatment, or safety decision. Do not delay professional care because of something shown in the app. If you believe you may be experiencing a medical emergency, contact local emergency services.
HRV varies between people and across days. Harden does not guarantee that a reading, score, readiness band, trend, suggestion, or AI answer is complete or correct, or that using Harden will produce a particular recovery, training, fitness, health, or performance result.
What the current Android app does
Harden can connect to a compatible Bluetooth heart-rate chest strap; record beat-to-beat intervals and heart rate; calculate HRV metrics on the phone; compare readings with your own recent baseline; show trends and readiness; provide deterministic guidance; save notes and tags; record workouts; and create local training goals and planned workouts.
Harden is designed to remain useful without an account. Readings, readiness, trends, notes, workouts, plans, deterministic guidance, export, and restore are available signed out. The optional AI Coach is the exception and requires passwordless email sign-in.
The current release is Android only. There is no current iOS release, first-party Cloud Backup, or health-history sync.
Optional account
Harden uses Supabase for passwordless email authentication. The same one-time-code flow can create an account or sign in to an existing one. Harden does not ask you to create a password.
An account provides authenticated access to the Coach, allows the server to enforce a monthly question allowance, and provides self-service account deletion. It does not upload, sync, or back up the seven-category health and activity history stored on your phone.
Signing out clears the active session on that device when the sign-out operation succeeds. It does not delete the account or local history.
Optional AI Coach
A signed-in user can send a question through Harden's Supabase-hosted server to the AI provider selected in Settings: Anthropic or OpenAI, when that provider is configured.
The request can include:
- the question;
- up to 10 of today's notes;
- today's date, RMSSD, mean heart rate, and readiness;
- up to 7 and 30 recent daily metric rows;
- personal baseline mean and standard deviation; and
- Harden's deterministic guidance.
Harden does not automatically include raw beat-to-beat intervals, SDNN, pNN50, tags, strap identifiers, workout records, workout heart-rate series, training plans, planned workouts, prior Coach conversations, or exports. The question is limited to 2,000 characters, up to ten of today's notes are included, and Supabase limits each note to 200 characters before forwarding it to the selected AI provider. Text included within those limits is sent.
By tapping Send, you direct Harden to process that request through Supabase and the selected provider so an answer can be returned. Do not submit another person's confidential or health information unless you have the right to do so.
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, inconsistent, or inappropriate. The server instructs the AI to avoid diagnosis, medication advice, clinical claims, and contradiction of Harden's deterministic guidance. Those instructions reduce risk but do not guarantee compliance, and the answer is not reviewed by a clinician.
The Coach is subject to a server-enforced monthly allowance. The allowance, remaining-question count, and provider availability can change. We do not promise that a particular provider will always be configured or available.
A request can count after the server accepts it for processing, including a malformed request, an ordinary off-topic answer, or a provider safety refusal. Provider-unavailable and provider/network-failure paths attempt to return the credit, but a technical failure in that refund process can prevent the credit from being restored.
Local storage, Android backup, export, and restore
Harden stores its health and activity history in seven local categories: readings, daily summaries, notes, local Coach messages, workouts, training plans, and planned workouts.
Harden does not provide health-history sync or first-party cloud backup. Separately, Android can include Harden's private app data in the device backup held in your Google account when Android backup is enabled. New River Codeworks does not receive or control that backup. Restoring an older Android backup can restore data you previously deleted from the phone.
Settings > Data > Export all data creates a plain, readable, unencrypted JSON file with the seven local categories and opens Android's share sheet. You choose the destination and are responsible for protecting and deleting copies saved or sent elsewhere.
Harden can restore its own export format and fill in supported content not already on the phone. The overall restore totals include all seven categories, but the current preview and completion screens do not show separate statistic rows for training plans and planned workouts. Older archives can also reconstruct some day tags differently between preview and completed restore. Keep the original export and review readings, workouts, and calendar items after restoring. Do not treat the current restore flow as an independently verified, automatic phone-transfer guarantee.
Two separate deletion actions
Delete local data
Settings > Data > Delete all data asks for confirmation twice, then runs deletion across the seven local history categories and clears the saved last-used strap name. The categories are cleared in separate database operations, so an interruption or failure can leave partial history. If the action fails or the app closes during deletion, run it again and check the history screens.
Local deletion does not delete or sign you out of the optional account. It does not clear most app preferences or the disclosure record. It cannot delete an export in app cache or a copy saved elsewhere, support correspondence, AI-provider or platform records, or an Android backup in your Google account.
Delete the account
A signed-in user can open Settings > Account > Delete account. After two confirmations, Harden calls an authenticated service that deletes the Supabase authentication user and the user's rows in six Harden server tables: readings, daily summaries, Coach messages, notes, Coach usage, and entitlements. Those content tables exist defensively in the server schema even though the current app does not sync local health history.
After a successful response, Harden attempts to sign out and clear the local session on that device, then separately offers local deletion.
Account deletion does not delete local phone data, Android backups, exports saved elsewhere, support correspondence, or separate AI-provider and platform records, logs, or backups. The Privacy Policy describes these boundaries in more detail.
Invitation-only beta
The current Android release is being provided to a small group of invited testers through Google Play. Beta software can contain defects, incomplete presentation, interrupted services, or behavior that changes before a public release.
Keep an export of information you cannot afford to lose and check your Android backup setting. Feedback is voluntary and is handled under the Privacy Policy. Beta status does not reduce your privacy rights or New River Codeworks' responsibility to describe current data handling accurately.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- using a compatible, properly functioning strap and phone;
- following the strap manufacturer's instructions and warnings;
- protecting your phone, email account, one-time codes, and export files;
- checking that a reading appears plausible before relying on it for a training choice;
- deciding whether and how to act on general-wellness information; and
- seeking qualified professional help for health concerns.
Acceptable use
You may not:
- use Harden unlawfully or to harm another person;
- attempt to access another user's account or information;
- interfere with Harden, the account service, Coach, allowance controls, or security;
- probe for secrets, bypass safeguards, or submit automated high-volume requests;
- use Coach for content outside its recovery, training-context, and app-help scope;
- present Harden output as a diagnosis or professional medical advice;
- reverse engineer, copy, modify, distribute, sublicense, sell, or commercially exploit Harden except where applicable law expressly permits it; or
- remove ownership, copyright, or trademark notices.
We may restrict network-dependent features when reasonably necessary to address abuse, security, service availability, or legal requirements.
License and ownership
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Harden for lawful, non-commercial purposes under these Terms and applicable app-store rules.
Harden's software, design, text, branding, and other content belong to New River Codeworks or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer ownership of Harden to you.
You keep any rights you have in notes and questions you write. You give New River Codeworks the limited permission needed to transmit and process that content to operate the feature you request, maintain security, enforce the allowance, and meet legal obligations, subject to the Privacy Policy.
Third-party products and services
Harden depends on third-party products and services, including your phone and Android, a compatible Bluetooth strap, Google device backup, Supabase, Anthropic, OpenAI, email services, Google Play, and any export destination you choose.
New River Codeworks does not manufacture or control your phone or strap and does not guarantee compatibility with every device, firmware version, Bluetooth condition, or Android release. Network services and AI providers can be interrupted, changed, or unavailable.
Your use of Google Play, Android backup, a strap, email service, or export destination may also be governed by that provider's terms.
Price and purchases
The current Harden app has no subscription or paid tier. Export is not paywalled. These Terms do not promise a future paid feature.
These Terms and the store disclosures must be updated before any paid offering is released.
Changes and availability
We may maintain, fix, update, change, suspend, or discontinue Harden or a feature. We do not guarantee that Harden, the account service, Coach, or an AI provider will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device.
If we materially change these Terms, we will publish an updated version with a new effective date and provide any notice required by law.
Ending use
You may stop using Harden at any time. To remove information, use the separate local-data and account-deletion controls, then uninstall the app if you choose.
We may suspend or end access to network-dependent features if you materially violate these Terms or if continued access creates a security or legal risk. Sections that logically need to continue, including ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits, remain effective after use ends.
Warranty disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Harden is provided “as is” and “as available.” New River Codeworks disclaims implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty, remedy, or consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, New River Codeworks and its owners, employees, contractors, licensors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, revenue, profits, opportunities, or goodwill arising from or related to Harden.
New River Codeworks is not responsible for loss of local history caused by a lost, damaged, reset, replaced, or inaccessible device; for the operation, availability, or security of Android's backup service; or for loss or disclosure caused by an export destination you choose.
These limitations do not apply where applicable law does not allow liability to be limited or excluded.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live remain unaffected.
